Why does Thanksgiving get forgotten?

Does anyone else feel this way?  I mean it seems everyone wants to jump right from Halloween into Christmas?  NOT that I don't love Christmas.  But I love fall too.  And Thanksgiving is part of fall.  I love Thanksgiving.  I have so many wonderful memories of Thanksgiving.  For my boys..it's No Shave November...that just makes me chuckle.  For some reason, when one puts away their every day duds for bright orange, wool socks, long undies, a hunting license pinned to your back..and a gun in your hand...in hot pursuit of the perfect buck...one also feels there is no need to shave.  It's always been a good contest in our house...all my boys competing over who has the most facial hair this year!   Poor Zach..he always loses.  I think he's pretty much given up on it!  I think he still shaves in No Shave November...just so he doesn't have to admit said defeat!

I also have memories of huge pots of my Dad's chili...stories from the woods..who missed what...who shot what.  It was always a time of family gathered round.  I loved it.  It was also one of the times of the year I saw my Dad smile the most.  Not that he didn't normally smile...but he was just like a little kid all excited and giddy over hunting!

I also love to eat.  So maybe that's another reason I love Thanksgiving.  I mean any holiday that promotes eating amazing amounts of food without having to feel guilty HAS to be wonderful.

Ohhh...and Deer Hunters Widow Weekend.  It's been a mass of different thing.  My favorite was shopping with my sisters at all the unique little shops in King WI and Waupaca Wi.  Many crafters would open their homes with their handmades too.  Now who wouldn't love that!

So why then is it just kind of ignored.  Even finding Thanksgiving decor isn't easy.  Sure there's your occasional Pilgrim, or Indian...but for years...and I have been decorating for years...finding unique Thanksgiving decor has been few and far between.  And trust me...I search..I search my favorite stores, I search Etsy..I search Ebay...I search the world wide web...all in search of the elusive perfect Thanksgiving decor!  Much like my boys...looking for their buck!  Most times...I'm disappointed at best...but this year...I hit the mother load..Lol..  Ok, maybe it's just one little turkey, lol..and one little pumpkin, and one little branch of sweet annie and another of bittersweet.  But oh my oh my how I LOVE my find.  I bet you will too.  You want to see it?  Do you?  Really?

Ok...You ready????

You sure????

  3. I'm with you on that topic Katie. I'd like to know why it gets jumped over too when it's such a family oriented holiday. Oh well, we can continue to make it special. My hubby is scoping out his big buck for this season :-) That's one fine looking Tom Turkey and I'll bet he's so happy he won't be Thanksgiving dinner!

  4. Yes. I think that Christmas is so commercialized that retail has to bank on every spare second to get that extra penny. I walked into Walmart the day after Halloween and guess what? A HUGE Christmas tree right in the entry way. My kids are wondering what Holiday is next. -Steph-
